Not just another bait mold
Inspired by the family love of fishing, we set out to create a better, simpler solution to making your own bait with NO expensive and messy injection system, in a durable aluminum mold that lasts. Now you can easily make your own fishing bait at home with a microwave, glass melting cup, and our innovative design. No more overpaying for a bag of colored plastic at a big box store. Mix and match your own colors, scents, pigments, glitter, anything you can dream of!
Recommended Use
Heating
We recommend starting with 1/2 cup of plastisol (low odor, med weight plastisol recommended). Place into a microwave safe glass container rated to at least 400F. We recommend Pyrex measuring cups, as they are reliable and easy to clean. Microwave for 1 minute, and gently stir with a wood tool. Metal may heat up, and cools off the plastisol rapidly. We like bamboo skewers, pencils, or dowels. Continue microwaving in 30 second intervals and stirring until all the new plastisol has turned clear (340F activation temperature). If it isn’t heated until it turns clear, it may not harden correctly. After the new plastisol is melted, add your colors, glitter, scent, dye, etc. Keep reheating as necessary, maintaining a flowing liquid but not overheating until boiling or smoking. 30 seconds is usually a perfect reheat between pours.
Pouring
Wear heat resistant gloves and pour slowly! Start at one end of the mold, slowly flowing plastic back and forth until the mold is full to the top of the cavity. You may have to practice a few times. If you get a bad pour, wait for them to cool and throw them back in to re-melt! No wasted plastic, just re-use it. The glass container will hold heat for a long time, so don’t rush. Any extra over-pour can easily be torn or cut off while the rubber is still soft after removal, and can be thrown back in to re-melt.
Removing
Wait 1-2 minutes for the bait to cool. The mold may be warm, so please be cautious and wear gloves. A simple tool like a skewer or plastic knife are excellent at popping an end loose to pull out from the mold. Please avoid metal, as it will damage the aluminum. Multi-colored bait may be created by using two colors in separate glass containers simultaneously and pouring a bottom and top layer. Get creative!
Reusing old bait
We don’t recommend remelting old bait more than a few times, as it can start to clump and take longer to melt. It’s highly recommended to mix new rubber into old bait to rejuvenate the color and texture, as old bait may not melt well on its own. Test a small batch first, incase your old bait isn’t compatible.
